Ken Berg - President
Ken’s association with CIS began in the summer of 1963 as a camper, and he became a staff member soon after. He joined the board in the early 1970s and has been a member ever since. During that time, he has served as Director and also as Board Chair. As a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Ken was instrumental in the incorporation of CIS. (The camp was owned and operated by Ascension until CIS's incorporation in 2007.) He currently works at Schaefer Tool Manufacturing as Director of Quality Management Systems.
Pastor Chuck Turbin - Vice President
Chuck was hired by the camp in the summer of 1966 as a boy's counselor and athletic director. He worked at CIS for eight years, including three as Camp Director. He has served on the board of directors since its incorporation. Chuck is a semi-retired Lutheran Pastor serving part-time in a small congregation in Jackson, Wis.
Chris Swannell - Secretary
Chris’s association with camp began as a camper in 1963, and included a stint as a staff member in 1968. She has been a great friend of camp ever since. She chaired the pancake breakfast held at Ascension Lutheran Church (where she is a member) this year and will be heading up this event once again next year. Chris is a retired Milwaukee Public School teacher where she taught for 36 years, 21 years in special education and 15 years in third grade.
Danielle Oberndorfer - Treasurer
Danielle graduated in 2007 with a BBA-Accounting and in 2009 with an MS-Taxation, both from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She worked at Cohen and Company, Certified Public Accountants, from 2008-11 where she provided accounting services (including payroll) to a variety of well-known non-profits in the Milwaukee area including: Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, Journey House, Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, Urban Ecology Center, Penfield Childrens Center and United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee. She passed the CPA in 2010 and became licensed as a CPA in Wisconsin in early 2011. She joined the board in 2009 and became treasurer in 2010.
Roger Rustad - Legal Advisor
Roger has served on the board of directors since its incorporation as a legal advisor. He is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Roger has been practicing law since 1982 after graduating from Marquette University.
Katie Heckel
Katie has been going to camp since she was born. She has been a camper, a CIT for two years, and a long-time friend of CIS. She joined the board of directors in 2010. Katie also is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She works for UPS in business development.
Tom Kaschak
Tom has been involved with CIS for over 30 years ever since he and his family took their first camping trip there. Tom and his family have been volunteering in all capacities ever since. He has been key in keeping up with the camp's maintenance and has spearheaded many renovation projects over the years. Tom has been a board member for at least 15 years and also is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He is currently employed at Kelmann Corporation as a fire and water restoration carpenter.
Dan Klemencic
Dan, one of two new board members, joined the board in September 2011 along with Mike Singer. He is a marketing and public relations guru who has been visiting Tuttle Lake for over 25 years. Dan was a key member of Harley-Davidson's marketing staff for nearly 20 years, and he served a stint as the Marketing and Development Manager for the Milwaukee Children's Choir. He currently is the Public Relations Specialist for the Palmyra-Eagle Area School District as well as the Web Specialist for the Wauwatosa School District.
Gary Lindsay
Gary is a long-time friend of CIS, a past Board Chair, an avid volunteer, a member of the Golf committee, and a major donor. He also is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Gary is the owner of Lindsay Meats in Milwaukee.
Liz Schaefer
Liz, who has both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in social work, joined the board in 2009. She worked for 13 years at the non-profit Lutheran Social Services where she served as a social worker for seven years and as Director of Adoption Services for Domestic and International Adoptions for six years. Liz currently is a medical social worker at Children’s Hospital during the week and a social worker at Columbia St. Mary’s on weekends.
Mike Singer
Mike has been a CIS Board member since September 2011. He has been coming to the Tuttle Lake area for over 50 years and has been a property owner on the lake since 2003. He is currently the owner of G5 Solutions, an IT search firm specializing in staffing in the Minnesota market. In addition, Mike is the co-owner and VP of Resourcing for Backlot Imaging, a special effects firm for the movie industry, with offices in Milwaukee, Chicago and Hollywood. When time allows, he is an adjunct faculty member at both ITT Tech and Bryant & Stratton College, where he has taught a number of business capstone courses.
STAFF
Jennifer McAlister - Executive Director
Jennifer basically grew up at Camp Indian Sands, starting her association with the camp at age 2. Over the next 30 years CIS became an integral part of her life. During that time she has been a camper, counselor, camp cook, volunteer, board treasurer, secretary, and president helping to ensure the incorporation of CIS. She left the board in 2007 after she had her first child. She came back as Interim Executive Director in April 2011 and had the interim label removed from her title when she accepted the position of Executive Director in September 2011. Jennifer also is a middle school teacher for the Muskego School District.
Dan Klemencic - Marketing Director
Dan is a marketing and public relations guru who has been visiting Tuttle Lake for over 25 years. Garth Kraemer - Site Maintenance Director
Garth Kraemer joined the CIS staff 15 years ago as the Site Maintenance Director. He has been an avid supporter of CIS and has served the camp in many capacities over the years. Garth and his wife, Peggy, live across the road from the camp and also own a cottage on the lake.
