You Could Call Us "Camp Kids" Because We Specialize In Children
Our mission is pretty simple: we bring kids from the city to the camp to learn, play, worship, and pray in the outdoors.
The simple things can often be the most profound. Creating a place for children to camp and experience nature may be more important today than ever, as evidenced by these "firsts" we saw in 2010:
It's amazing how many children have never slept out in a tent, wandered through the woods, or built a sand castle at the beach. At Camp Indian Sands we are committed to creating life-impacting experiences for every camper. Sure, we may take a swim at sunrise, paint our faces for all-camp games, and sing without prodding, but that's all a part of our "purposeful play."
With a talented, well-trained, and committed staff we know that a week at camp increases physical activity, gives children a safe place for positive risk taking, engages youth in skill building, connects children to nature, and builds strong friendships. Camp Indian Sands offers opportunities for children to grow.
The simple things can often be the most profound. Creating a place for children to camp and experience nature may be more important today than ever, as evidenced by these "firsts" we saw in 2010:
- The camper who swam in a lake for the first time.
- Campers who checked in daily to watch the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly.
- Kids who saw their fear of frogs disappear as they held one in their hands for the first time after it had wandered into the shower house.
- For one camper, it was his first time at "overnight camp," and for another it was his first time away from his parents.
- Even our staff members had new experiences. One counselor, who had never paddled a canoe, took a trip down the Mecan River.
